2008 rules:
Amateur Division Contest Rules

NOTE: We have a Pro-Ams
division for sculptors who have more experience than beginners but
are not masters.

1. Categories:
|
Solo
Family Team (must be family members such as parents, kids, grandparents,
aunts, cousins...)*
Small Team (2 to 5 people)*
Large Team (6 or more people-no limit)*
*These Teams in the adult category are allowed to include youths
on the teams but the youth contest can not include adults.
| 2. Time:
April 19, 9:00am to 4:00pm
(winners
announced at 5:15pm)

| 3. Plot
size: 12' by 18'
|
| 4. Registration:
Before contest, either at Texas SandFest or early by
mail (click for form)
Registration fees: solo = $25, family team = $30, small team = $30, large
team = $35
|
| 5. Prizes: (winners announced at
5:15pm in the Entertainment Tent, 5pm for Youth Awards)
There will be all three of the following prizes for
the Solo, Family Team, Small Team, & Large Team categories:
Third Place - Trophy
Second Place - Trophy
First Place -
$50 & Trophy
People's Choice
(Trophies and $25 best Solo and $25 best Team)
The public at the Texas
SandFest votes for
their favorite solo sculpture and their favorite team sculpture from all of the Amateur entries.
Peoples Choice Awards are sponsored by the Venetian Hot Plate

| 6. Rules:
A. All your
work must be done within your designated plot.
B. You can
only use the sand from within your designated plot.
C. Any
decorative materials must be biodegradable (shells, seaweed, etc.).
D. Food
coloring may be added for color.
E. Nothing may
be added to the sand except water.
No paint, flour, sugar, cement,
clay or adhesives, etc.
F. Only the registered Sculptors are allowed inside their own
plot.
G. No power tools can be used inside the plot.
(for example no power screwdrivers...)
H. Holes must be filled and trash & equipment removed
before the judging.

| 7. Judging:
(winners announced at 5:15pm
in the Entertainment Tent)
The decisions of the judges are final.
The judges will be judging the sculptures
using the following criteria:
ORIGINALITY AND IMAGINATION
DEGREE OF TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY
ARTISTIC MERIT
Your entry fee helps SandFest
raise money for local charities.
